Beauty Favourites of 2017

It's the best time of year in the blogging and vlogging world. People doing their yearly round ups and reflections on the year and getting inspired by other people's 2018 resolutions and goals. My blog is no different and I'm kicking off my 2017 Favourites series with my top beauty picks. This year saw another year of hugely popular releases that went viral - Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture palette, the pop up of Fenty Beauty, Huda Faux Filter and the Morphe x Jaclyn Hill palette (which narrowly missed making it on to this list) to name a handful. But what products have earned a permanent position in my make up bag?

Tarte In Bloom Palette
Since picking up Tarte's In Bloom palette, not only have I not wanted to buy (m)any more palettes but I have hardly been reaching for any of my others either as you can see from how well loved & beat up the palette in. Where do I begin? OK, so the packaging is super pretty, its easy to clean, sturdy, but also lightweight so it's fab for on-the-go. The palette is made up of 12 essentially warm, nude shades - a lot of browns, pinks, red and mauves. Despite the theme, it's super versatile, I've created so many different looks with In Bloom. In terms of formulas, we've got 9 mattes and 3 shimmer shades and they all have a pleasant vanilla fragrance.

Generally, the shadows are super soft and blendable. "Flowerchild" could be my favourite eye shadow formula, period. I use it every single time I wear eyeshadow, I just love it as a base. The darker shades obviously are a bit tougher to blend out but are still awesome. The shimmer and foiled shades are gorgeous and as long as I use a glitter primer, they are bold and sparkly. I never thought I'd say this about an eyeshadow palette because I have so many and don't wear eyeshadow every day, but I think I need to buy a back up of In Bloom as I love it just that much.
Charlotte Tilbury Kim KW Lipstick
After chucking my MAC lipsticks following the transition to cruelty free, I've championed the liquid lipstick but fancied a change. I picked Kim KW up after seeing makeup gurus with a similar skin tone to mine wearing it and absolutely loving it. The packaging is so luxe and high end looking which you would expect for the £24 price tag! I got it with a Selfridges giftcard. Kim K-W is of course named after Kim Kardashian-West and that is apparent as the shade is very reflective of Kim's iconic nude lip. The colour is so beautiful - it's a cool, pinky nude and it's a satin finish rather than a matte. I'll be honest, it's not particularly long-wearing but the formula is really comfortable on the lips, it's not drying and it's just been my go-to all year and it'll soon need replacing.
Kat Von D - Alchemist Palette
I sound like a broken record here but once again the package is just out of this world, I love it, like the pans that lie beneath, it's quirky and a bit out there. So The Alchemist is made up of 4 highlighters - emerald, sapphire, opal and amethyst which are described as "transformers". You can wear them as a normal highlighter (cheeks, nose, cupids bow etc), on your eyes for a bit of lid or inner corner action OR apply them over lipsticks or eyeshadows to transform the colours. Not only is this a really fun product but the pigmentation is incredible, with sparkly or iridescent powder products I find I have to dip into the pan 3 or 4 times but not with these bad boys. My only gripe is the pans are a lot smaller than I was expecting but as a little goes a long way, I can't see myself running out any time soon.
Urban Decay Quickfix Hydracharge Complexion Prep Spray
I must have got through about 8 of these this year and not without good reason. Let's face it the name is quite the mouthful so I just call it Quickfix is a spray which doubles up as both a primer and a setting spray. I love it for early mornings before work as it means I am primed and ready to get onto foundation within seconds. Not only that but using this before a base and spritzing throughout the day keeps my face looking refreshed. UD Quickfix, Kat Von D Lock It Foundation and Powder are my holy grail trio for a long-lasting base. My make up stays looking as good as new when I apply at 5am and I go to take it off at 10pm and even when I've been sweating whilst playing netball. It helps that this also has a light coconut scent that reminds me of holidays.

That's it for my favourite make up goodies that I've tried out in 2017. With a super long makeup wishlist of products I want to try out, I can't wait to get some new items for 2018.

Have you tried any of these products? What are your favourite make-up items you've picked up this year?

  1. I used to didn't have any professional course experience I am so glad to choose Lina Cameron for doing my makeup lesson. She is so good and so professional in this line. She is really awesome and helpful. I am so glad to choose her as my trainer and to do this course by her. She helped me a lot to improve my skills and to create my own level.
